SPENCER, Iowa — As the new CEO/manager of the Clay County Fair, Jason Brockshus calls himself a cheerleader for what has been described as "the World's Greatest County Fair."
Yet, he also concedes the role also requires himself to be a bit of a tightrope walker.
"On the one hand, you will always hear people say 'there's never anything new at fair,'" Brockshus said. "On the other hand, other people will be worried because their favorite funnel cake is suddenly in a different location this year."
"It becomes a balancing act," he added. "You incorporate new elements at the fair while keeping the traditions that people have loved for generations."
Currently in its 107th year, the Clay County Fair will begin Saturday and run through Sept. 14 in Spencer, Iowa.
