GRANVILLE, Iowa -- Authorities say preliminary findings indicate an accidental electrical fire originating in a living room area of a Sioux County home may have lead to the deaths of three teens.

The Sioux County Sheriff's Office made the announcement in an updated news release Thursday, but noted the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

At 4:58 a.m. Monday, the Granville Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at a residence on 430th Street, 2 1/2 miles northwest of Granville.

Granville firefighters found a residence filled with heavy smoke and four people inside in critical condition. They were taken by ambulance to Orange City Area Health System, where Kolten Hofmeyer, 17, of Alton, Iowa, died as a result of injuries suffered in the fire.
