NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - Dove season is in full swing. While hunters are in the field, it’s important to practice safety measures.
“Yeah, it’s better to be safe than sorry,” Sharron Michelle Jones said.
Jones is on a camping trip with her husband. While they won’t be hunting any doves this weekend, she’s hunted in the past.
“I’m wearing orange from head to toe,” Jones said. “I’m a neon sign walking through the woods. But I told him I’d rather them see me than someone walk up on me and not see me and something happen to me.”
Wearing hunter orange is only part of the safety checklist that Game Warden Timothy Walker is sharing with hunters.
“Pay attention to your zones of fire, if there is someone to your left and right, make sure your barrel does not pass in their direction,” Walker
