Today in History revisits the September 6, 1900 edition of the Grand Forks Herald and highlights a story about two Grand Forks men caught hunting without licenses in Minnesota, and they planned to fight the charges. Continue reading for more details.

On Monday, John Birkholz and C. A. Hale, of this city, in company with Dr. C. S. Brackett of Minneapolis, were hunting in the vicinity of the farm of Mr. Birkholz at Buffington, when the entire party was halted by Game Warden Shaw and Deputy Sheriff Lawrence of Polk County. None of the party had a license. Dr. Brackett, being a resident of the state, was not molested, but Messrs. Hale and Birkholz were informed that they must answer to the proper authorities for hunting without a license.
