EUGENE, Ore. - As thousands of students across Oregon head back to campus, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) is raising awareness about the increase in sports betting among young adults.

In a press release issued just a day before the 2025 college football season kicked off, OHA said they are encouraging families to discuss the risks of gambling with students before they head to college.

"So one of the reasons we sent the press release out is because we really wanted parents of those college­aged students to be aware that here is an activity that may be occurring on campus," said Greta Coe, problem gambling program manager at OHA. "Here you have your students that are going, your children, who are going back to school. And some of them, this might be the first time they have some freedom
