DETROIT — It’s not great but it could’ve been worse.
Tigers reliever Kyle Finnegan was diagnosed with a mild right adductor strain and placed on the 15-day injured list before the game Friday. The IL stint is retroactive to Sept. 1, so if he progresses through the rehab process like he expects, he could return as early as Sept. 16.
That gives him two weeks of regular-season work to sharpen back up for the postseason.
“I definitely stopped it before it could’ve gotten worse,” Finnegan said. “I’m just going to attack the rehab one day at a time. I’m feeling really confident about where I am at already, so, just trust the plan. I expect to throw a few more games in the regular season and be ready for the postseason.”
