The “ Caitlin Rio era” is off to a great start for Triton field hockey.

With their new coach at the helm, the Vikings opened up the new season pretty much exactly how they closed the last one. Junior Maggie Rennick and sophomore Aaliyah Jackson sent home the goals, and the Vikings welcomed in the new year with a 2-1 road victory over Essex Tech. Senior captain Delaney Quinn — a returning Daily News All-Star from a season ago — assisted on both goals, and junior goalie Tristan Vo made four saves to pick up her first varsity win.
