A Kennebec County man pleaded guilty Friday in U.S. District Court to one count of access with intent to view child pornography.

Jeffery Furlong, 53, of China, faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and up to a lifetime of supervised release, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew McCormack.

The Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit began investigating in June 2024 after receiving a tip that a Kik messenger user uploaded multiple videos of child sexual abuse material. Investigators later identified the user as Furlong.

A search warrant was executed at his home that October. Furlong admitted he had obtained multiple images and videos of child sexual abuse material through Kik, prosecutors said.
