Flight attendants at Air Canada are set to conclude voting on a new contract today at 3 p.m. ET. This tentative agreement, which was reached after a strike last month, includes wage increases and a new pay structure for time worked while aircraft are on the ground.
Voting began on August 27 for over 10,000 union members. If the contract is not ratified, the Air Canada component of the Canadian Union of Public Employees has stated that most terms will still be included in a new collective agreement. However, wage-related terms would move to arbitration.
The proposed contract features a 12 percent salary increase this year for most junior flight attendants and an 8 percent raise for more senior staff. Smaller raises are planned for subsequent years.
The three-day strike, which concluded on August 19, disrupted travel plans for thousands of customers. The resolution was facilitated by a federal mediator.
