A proposal to relocate the Leon’s Furniture store in downtown Simcoe to the site of the former Peavey Mart on Queensway West checks all the boxes for good planning, says the agent who presented the plan to Norfolk’s public hearing committee on Wednesday.

Eldon Darbyson, director of planning for G. Douglas Vallee Limited, told the committee the former Peavey Mart site is a “prime location” for Leon’s to consolidate its existing operation in Simcoe, which doesn’t have large enough warehousing and parking space.

“It’s a perfect opportunity to re-use a vacant building,” said Darbyson.

The proposal needs municipal approval because the furniture and appliance store would be a larger size than the 3,000-square-metre limit for commercial operations currently allowed in that area.
