Derek Ryan is choosing to retire from the NHL. The 10-year veteran's decision was announced on Friday.

Derek Ryan Retires

Ryan made his NHL debut at 29 years old. The forward played in 606 games, scoring 82 goals. His best season came in 2017-18 when he scored 15 goals and recorded 38 points with the Carolina Hurricanes.

In addition to the Canes, Ryan also played for the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers.

Final Seasons

Ryan joined the Oilers for the 2021-22 season. He had his best season with the Oilers, recording 22 points in 75 games. In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Ryan played in 15 games as the Oilers reached the Western Conference Final.

During the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Ryan played in 19 games as the Oilers reached their first Stanley Cup Final since 2006.
