While the big news of the night was the hiring of Morristown’s new Fire Chief Brian Shepard, the work of the Morristown City Council kept in motion.
The Council approved grant applications for the fire department and police departments.
The Fired department is applying for a $22,650 grant from the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency to provide supplies for hazmat training.
That funding would help purchase equipment and protective gear for things like hazmat rail car training.
There is a 20% match requirement that will see the city cover just $4,439.80 of the costs for the gear.
The Morristown Police Department is applying for a Tennessee Highway Safety Office Grant for $36,000.
