A man is in the hospital after being shot by a North Miami Beach police officer Saturday morning, following what investigators say was a bogus 911 call about a stabbing.
Police Chief Juan Pinillos said officers were dispatched around 9:47 a.m. to Northeast 164th Street and 16th Avenue after a call claimed someone had been stabbed. When officers arrived, they encountered a man holding a knife. According to police, the officers gave several verbal commands to drop the weapon, but the man refused and charged at them. An officer then fired, striking the suspect.
The man was taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery and was last reported in stable condition. No officers were hurt, and police recovered the knife at the scene.
