Aaron Barron Pintor outkicked Tavin Timperley down the homestretch as the high school cross country season kicked off Friday at the 64th annual Steve Maas Run-a-Ree.
Barron Pintor, a senior from Columbia River, covered the 5,000 meter Hudson’s Bay High School course in a personal best time of 15 mintutes, 42 seconds.
Timperley, a sophomore from Prairie, was just one-tenth of a second behind. His time was also a personal best.
Prairie won the boys team title with 47 points, ahead of Columbia River’s 54 points. Shackleton Hoyte placed seventh and Ethan McKell eighth as the Falcons placed all five of their scoring runners in the top 19.
Columbia River’s Wyatt Nitzschke placed third in 15:52.
In the girls race, Sasha Pash of La Center was the top local finisher. She placed fifth in 19:55
