Six projects have made it onto this year’s Stirling Prize shortlist. Among them are a new campus for the London College of Fashion and the restoration of Big Ben – doing little to dampen criticism that the prestigious architecture award is too London-centric.

Also on the shortlist is – yes – another project in the capital – but one with a message for councils across the country: a social housing complex designed for people over 65 – which aims to encourage socialisation and reduce isolation.
