If you have ever visited Portugal, there’s a very good chance you either landed or departed from Lisbon, which was named the most budget-friendly destination in 2023 . If you did, you probably spent a few days visiting the city and enjoying a ride on one of the capital’s iconic attractions: the Lisbon funicular. Its iconic yellow carriages have been transporting people for 140 years.

Unfortunately, however, on Wednesday, September 3, the funicular derailed, killing 16 people, including the driver. Among the victims were individuals of various nationalities, among whom were two Canadians, one American, five Portuguese, two South Koreans, one Swiss, three Britons, as well as one Ukrainian and one French person.
