After decades of having only one public high school in the city, times and populations changed, leading to the opening of Pioneer High School in September 2003.
A year later, after fully assimilating, the school’s football program enjoyed its debut season. Then two years after that, during the 2006/2007 campaign, a rivalry was born as Woodland High School and Pioneer High School played for the first time, with the Patriots coming out on top 24-14.
Eighteen games later, the rivalry is as intense as ever, with both teams taking no regard for form or records, as anything can happen during the crosstown showdown.
The rivalry, history, and civic pride were all on display Friday night as Pioneer and Woodland dazzled the hundreds in attendance with a scintillating first quarter that ended 29-1
