PEKIN, Ill. (WMBD) -- The streets of downtown Pekin were filled with energy Saturday morning as the annual Pekin Marigold Parade kicked off this year’s Marigold Festival.
This year’s theme, “Pep Rally, Team Spirit,” highlighted community pride and togetherness. Floats, school groups, churches, and local organizations all joined in to showcase what it means to be part of Pekin.
Parade Co-Chair Shannon Sandoval said the parade and festival represent more than just a weekend of fun; they’re a celebration of what makes the community strong.
“I hope that they really get a sense of pride for the community that we live in,” Sandoval said. “This weekend is all about uplifting the things that make us proud to be here and celebrating togetherness.”
