ST. LOUIS — Spectrum, besieged by an accelerating theft of its communication wires, is offering up to $25,000 to tipsters whose information leads to an arrest in the St. Louis region.
The telecommunications company called the destruction of its infrastructure an “act of domestic terrorism” in a July statement , and said it had seen a 200% year-over-year increase in attacks on its network in Missouri.
After a tornado tore through north St. Louis in May, several people were arrested on suspicion of stealing utility wire from homes and businesses damaged in the storm. In July, a thousand pounds of illegally purchased wire were uncovered by police during a sting operation at SA Recycling in St. Louis.
