Alabama State football was on the heels of making school history in its 2025 season opener against UAB at Protective Stadium.

Unfortunately, second-half mistakes including a backwards pass recovered for a fumble, hindered the Hornets shot at beating their first FBS opponent in school history in a 52-42 shootout against the Blazers .

The good news for Alabama State from the season-opening loss, quarterback Andrew Body and the offense proved that it can takeover a game. The young Alabama State defense allowed 52 points, but with game experience and a week to improve, the defensive unit is expecting different results.

The Hornets will hit the road for a consecutive week to face Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (6 p.m. CT, ESPN+).
