Three police officers sustained minor injuries and four cruisers were damaged following a high-risk takedown in Pelham on Saturday.

Niagara Regional Police said officers were called to the area of Effingham Street and Sumbler Road shortly after 9 a.m., for a report of a possibly impaired driver.

Police were advised a grey Dodge Ram pickup truck had been travelling on Chantler Road toward Welland and weaving into oncoming traffic.

Officers located the vehicle parked in a driveway and spoke to the driver.

As an arrest was being attempted, police said, the suspect suddenly accelerated, which caused an officer to be thrown to the ground as the vehicle sped away on Sumbler Road.

A short time later, the truck was spotted on Forks Road in Wainfleet.
