FRANKLINVILLE, N.Y. — The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Saturday provided an update on its investigation into a large fish and wildlife die-off in Ischua Creek in a Cattaraugus County creek.

The DEC said it has identified potential water quality violations linked to wastewater discharges from the Great Lakes Cheese facility in Franklinville. Reports of dead fish were first lodged on Aug. 26.

"DEC took immediate action to address water quality violations and deployed dozens of our experts in water, wildlife, incident management, communications, and enforcement," DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton said in a Saturday evening statement.
