Javonte Graves-Billips caught two touchdown passes and had 139 receiving yards to lead The Citadel past Samford 40-13 on Saturday in the Southern Conference opener for both teams.

After a scoreless first quarter, Samford (0-2, 0-1) took a 6-0 lead on field goals of 40 and 20 yards from Jake Garner. The Citadel (1-1, 1-0) answered when Cobey Thompkins connected with Graves-Billips for a 43-yard touchdown pass with 6:03 left in the second quarter.

Ben Barnes added a 40-yard field goal three seconds before halftime for a 10-6 lead.
