A wildfire sparked Saturday afternoon, burning out of control close to the Island Highway north of Campbell River.

The BC Wildfire Service reported the wildfire just after 4 p.m. Saturday, measuring .3 hectares in size.

It sparked west of Highway 19 and south of Roberts Lake.

The cause of the wildfire remains unknown and under investigation.

Temperatures in the region hit 28 degrees Celsius Saturday, and sits at a low danger level rating for Sunday and Monday on the Fire Weather Danger Class Report.

However, earlier on Saturday, BCWS told CHEK that the region is not out of the woods in terms of wildfire activity, especially considering the continued hot and dry conditions.
