SORRENTO, La. (WAFB) - A St. Amant man died Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 61 in Ascension Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.

Troopers said the crash happened just after 3 p.m. on Sept. 6 near Pond Road.

Investigators said Jeffery Luquette, 59, was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette north on U.S. 61 at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe traveling in the same direction.

After impact, the Corvette went off the roadway and hit a tree. Luquette, who was properly restrained, died at the scene, according to LSP.

The driver of the Tahoe, who was also properly restrained, had minor injuries.

Troopers do not suspect impairment, but obtained a toxicology sample for analysis.
