GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Greensboro family is cleaning up after storms snapped a pear tree that had stood in their yard for nearly 30 years.
Eileen Kohlenberg said she was inside when the tree cracked and fell during the storm.
"I heard the crack of the tree, and I looked out the window and saw them falling," Kohlenberg said, "and luckily toward the street where no one was coming and not toward our house."
The tree had weathered every storm since the family moved into the neighborhood, including Hurricane Fran in 1996.
"They've endured quite a bit, and we haven't had any problems until now," Kohlenberg said.
Kohlenberg said she went outside in the rain to assess the damage.
