PORTLAND -- In U.S District Court on Friday, September 5, a man from the town of China pleaded guilty to one count of Access with Intent to View Child Pornography.

According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), court records reportedly say the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit began investigating a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children back in June of 2024, regarding child sexual abuse material from a user on the mobile app Kik.

That tip led investigators to identify Jeffery Furlong, 53, of China, Maine.

The DOJ says a search warrant of Furlong's residence in October of 2024 led to him admitting he had obtained multiple images and videos of child sexual abuse on his cellphone. Further investigations into Furlong's Kik account revealed child sexual abuse
