Coventry City Council more than halved what it spent on Christmas lights in two years, figures released this week show. £116,101 was spent in total for decorations in 2024 - around 58 percent less than 2022.
According to figures revealed by the council in a recent Freedom of Information request, £273,993 was spent in 2022, up from amount of £243,821 in 2021.
A turbulent economy has seen a tightening of purse strings, with £151,262 being spent in 2023. The decision to scrap the annual Christmas Lights Switch On may have contributed to the decrease in spending that was seen in 2024.
