An airline has introduced sweeping changes for larger passengers - triggering fierce backlash. Southwest Airlines has unveiled new rules for bigger travellers, which could lead to higher ticket prices.

The prominent US carrier has declared that passengers who cannot fit comfortably within their seat's armrests must now book an additional seat before travelling. These changes are amongst comprehensive alterations coming into force from January 27, 2026, which also encompass assigned seating systems.
