HELENA — Wykece Johnson scored three touchdowns and ran for 178 yards as Montana Tech bested Carroll 30-19 in a top 25 matchup Saturday.

The Orediggers (2-0) broke the ice in the first quarter as Derek Pearse hauled in a 27-yard touchdown pass from Jarrett Wilson. Wilson finished with 81 yards on 7-of-9 passing and the touchdown. Pearse had two catches for 56 yards.

Johnson carried the ball 34 times — his touchdowns from one, four and one yard out — helped Montana Tech to a 30-13 lead with 13:30 left in the fourth. His first touchdown broke a 7-7 tie and the Orediggers never looked back.

Helena High product and Carroll quarterback Kaden Huot connected with Ty Wilkinson from 13-yards out to cut the lead to 30-19. Huot finished with 166 yards on 16-for-29 passing; he had three touchdowns
