SANTA CRUZ — Scotts Valley High’s Ben Luckey recovered a fumble on Santa Cruz’s first offensive play in the teams’ nonleague football game, and things didn’t get much better for the Cardinals.

The Falcons were more than Luckey. They shined in all three phases of the game for the duration.

Running back/linebacker/punter Vaughn Chomentowski scored three touchdowns and made an interception — all in the first half — and the Falcons clobbered the Cardinals 35-6 at Harbor High on Saturday night.

“I was excited. Santa Cruz is like a rivalry game,” Chomentowski said. “They were kinda talking during the week, so it felt good to come out and hit ’em first. It felt like a downhill battle after that first touchdown. That was amazing.
