For more than a century, The News Journal and Delaware Online have been there for Delawareans in need through our Needy Family Fund.

Since 1924, thanks to the generosity of our readers, we've raised millions of dollars and distributed those funds to organizations such as The Salvation Army , the Food Bank of Delaware and the Division of State Services.

Together, with these agencies, we've helped provide emergency assistance to those in the First State in their time of need. The fund also has supported smaller nonprofits with annual grants, making a difference throughout Delaware.

This fund has been a source of pride for generations of News Journal staffers. That's why it's with a heavy heart that we announce the closing of the Needy Family Fund. We're distributing the remaining fun
