CHARLOTTE — It was almost as if Bill Belichick was speaking through Gavin Gibson in the Charlotte 49ers’ media room.
Following UNC football’s 20-3 win at Charlotte , Belichick’s first victory in college, Gibson channeled the 73-year-old coach by keeping things in perspective for the Tar Heels (1-1) after their win against the Niners (0-2).
“For Bill, this is just a small step of the way,” said Gibson, an East Carolina transfer and one of 70 newcomers on UNC's roster.
“Building on the season that we’re doing, this is the first win for him, first win for us as a team, but we know that there’s still a whole lot of growing to do.
