AMES — Another inefficient game from Iowa’s offense spoiled a potentially historic milestone win for head coach Kirk Ferentz as the Hawkeyes fell 16-13 to No. 16 Iowa State in Jack Trice Stadium on Saturday.

With Ferentz a win shy of becoming the all-time winningest coach in Big Ten history, a pass short of the sticks, an untimely interception, a heads up play and a late sack allowed the Cyclones (3-0, 1-0 Big 12) to delay greatness and win their second straight against the Hawkeyes (1-1, 0-0 Big Ten).

“(We) had several opportunities during the game,” Ferentz said. “(We) weren’t good enough to cash in when we needed to. … I think our guys had a real positive effort out there. Thought they competed and saw a lot of good things. … But, then we couldn't finish it out and give credit to them
