One of Keira Knightley's most gut-wrenching projects, which heartbroken film fans have branded utterly "tragic", has left audiences in tears as they promise to only watch once

Film fans are refusing to watch one of Keira Knightley's films more than once. ‌

The 2007 war romance film Atonement stars James McAvoy, Keira Knightley, Saoirse Ronan, Romola Garai, Vanessa Redgrave, Juno Temple, Benedict Cumberbatch, Brenda Blethyn and Ailidh Mackay. ‌

Directed by Joe Wright, Atonement is based on the 2001 Ian McEwan novel of the same name. The plot follows a crime and the consequences that follow in the six decades after, beginning right back in the 1930s. ‌

Wright was the youngest director to ever open the Venice International Film Festival at 35 and his project was a smash hit.
