There wasn’t a lot of hockey for Sam O’Reilly this summer.

“My last game was the finals of the Memorial Cup when we won (against Medicine Hat),” the London Knights’ top centre said before the club’s 2-1 exhibition win over the Erie Otters Friday at Canada Life Place. “I’m fired up (to get going again). Good to be back here in London with all the guys.”

O’Reilly took some much-needed rest after the Rimouski trip in late May, then got what he called “a little thing done on my body.” He didn’t want to say what it was but it kept him off the ice for three weeks and cost him a chance to participate with Canada in the World Junior Summer Showcase in Minnesota.

And, oh, yeah, the Oilers first-rounder’s NHL rights were dealt to Tampa Bay for 21-year-old forward Isaac Howard in July.
