SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Jalen Rose was honored with the Ice Cube Impact Award, marking the first time the award was given to someone other than Ice Cube himself.
The award, presented by Ice Cube himself, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to their community through basketball. Rose, a former NBA player and current TV analyst, is celebrated for his philanthropic efforts, including founding the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy in Detroit.
"He was a freshman at Michigan, and a couple weeks later, I end up getting a jersey," Ice Cube said. "He sent me a jersey, his Michigan jersey, and I still got it. And we've been friends ever since, running to each other, hanging out, trying to do cool things together, and I couldn't wait to give it to him."
