DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The cooler temperatures persist today, as do the calm and clear skies under high pressure.

Expect temperatures in the low 70s this afternoon. Skies will be sunny and clear, and they'll stay clear into this evening as well. This will allow temperature to return to the mid 40s overnight.

Things will be heating up this week. An upper level ridge builds in throughout the midweek, and as the area of high pressure overhead today moves eastward, southerly flow will bring warmer temperatures behind it. By the midweek, we can expect above average temperatures in the upper 80s across central Illinois, and a day in the low 90s or two can't be ruled out by the start of next week.
