On Wednesday, September 3, WestJet placed its largest aircraft order to date with long-standing partner Boeing. The Calgary-based carrier signed an agreement for 60 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and seven 787 Dreamliners, along with additional purchase options. The deal increases the airline's firm order book to 123 aircraft and extends its fleet growth plans through 2034.
From its modest start in 1996 with just three Boeing 737-200s serving western Canada, WestJet has grown into a major international airline . Nearly three decades later, it now operates close to 200 aircraft and flies to more than 120 destinations across North America, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. The latest order marks another step in the airline’s ongoing fleet renewal and long-haul expansion strategy.
