Aberdeen winger Nicolas Milanovic said he was ecstatic after making his Australia debut in a 1-0 victory over New Zealand.

The Aussies are currently ahead in the ' Soccer Ashes ' double header after Max Balard's goal gave the home side a victory to savour in Canberra.

Dons forward Milanovic, who moved to Pittodrie from Western Sydney Wanders in the summer, was given his debut off the bench on Friday night.

And despite the 'cagey' battle making for a tense ending, it was Milanovic and Co left celebrating as the World Cup-bound Socceroos now look ahead to Tuesday's return leg.

Speaking to the national team website, Milanovic admitted it was a moment he had been waiting a long time for, but one that was well worth the wait.
