The parents of a Leicestershire teenager who lost his battle with cancer 20 years ago have spoken of their loss, and told how his legacy is helping other people. David Vernon was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2005, at the age of 17.
His parents, Liz and Martin Vernon, said the first sign that something was seriously wrong was when "his friends all went to play football, but he came home because his foot hurt so much". They said that after waiting "months" to find out what was ailing David, he was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, an a ggressive form of bone cancer. He began high-dose chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but died 10 months later.
