SALT LAKE CITY — A concert violinist is back in Utah after being held for 17 days inside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Detention facility in Aurora, Colorado.

“I was shackled on my wrists and ankles. Homeland Security Agents treated me like a hardened criminal; as if I had murdered someone. I slept on a thin yoga mat. It was freezing. I got sick while inside there. Many others were ill because of the conditions,” John Shin said at a News Conference in Millcreek, Friday.

The University of Utah graduate with a master’s degree in music performance told reporters he didn’t feel threatened by the other detainees while inside the facility. Shin also mentioned each person was coded and forced to wear a certain color of shirt as an identifier.
