Is it possible that the hottest new bluegrass group in Europe is from right here in the Upstate?
The short answer is yes. It’s also the long answer.
Fiddle player Sterling Waite (who also plays mandolin and harmonica), guitarist Rush Morgan and upright bassist Mark Dye — aka the Reedy River String Band — have just returned from their second European tour in three years, promoting the band’s first-ever full-length album.
The trio caught on around the Upstate with surprising speed after forming in 2022. They were playing their light, funny, fleet-fingered bluegrass for hundreds of people within a year of becoming a full-time band. That popularity spread overseas, where the band first toured in 2024.
