COLUMBIA — A man was arrested on a drunken driving charge Sept. 7 after investigators say he hit a trooper while driving on Interstate 77.
Alex Bookert, 35, is facing charges of driving under the influence and endangering emergency services personnel, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department .
Bookert was driving north on I-77, near mile marker 8, shortly after midnight when his vehicle struck a trooper who had stopped a separate vehicle, the department said in a press release. The trooper, whose name and condition were not released, was taken to a hospital.
Bookert showed signs of impairment, investigators said. He was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing.
