CHARLESTON — The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Charleston County as thunderstorms quickly dumped inches of rain on the area.

2 to 3 inches had already fallen on parts of Charleston County by 4:20 p.m. Sept. 7, according to the NWS. An additional 1 to 3 inches could still fall this evening, it said.

The flash flood warning is set to expire at 7:15 p.m. It was issued at 3:54 p.m., just nine minutes after the NWS issued an advisory for “minor flooding.”

But radars indicated that the heavy rain that had already begun to fall on the county would continue, increasing the risk of flash flooding, according to the warning.
