A 25-year-old man admitted to shooting and killing his grandfather during an argument Saturday afternoon at their residence in Central, according to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office. The victim was a retired police captain who had served with the Baker Police Department.
Court records show that Nicholas Smith had been living at the residence of his 79-year-old grandfather, Danny Beck, since July of 2025. Around 3:50 p.m. Saturday, Smith called 9-1-1, and admitted to shooting and killing Beck in the home on Crystal Drive in Central.
