HILLSBORO Ore. (KPTV) - A charity softball tournament has become an annual tradition at the Gordon Faber Recreation Center on the first weekend after Labor Day.

That’s when the softball community in Oregon and Washington comes together to compete, and raise funds for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.

24 teams at the 18 and 16U levels rallied around the diamond for the 12th annual Fastpitch Cares Tournament in Hillsboro.

“The tournament is really about all of the heart in the community, and it’s expressed in different ways, but it is a community that cares a lot about kids,” said Karla Friede, treasurer for Fastpitch Cares.

Sue Oran is the president of the non-profit. The longtime pitching coach was an All-American herself.
