The longtime head coach of the SFU Red Leafs men’s club team told Postmedia in October 2023 that he thought a Red Leafs team could be a contender in Div. I within five years if it was upgraded to varsity status. He also said he could come up with enough boosters for the program to be self-funded. Article content Article content

On Friday, he hosted a fundraising lunch at The Sportsbar at Rogers Arena and told the crowd there that with “men’s and women’s hockey at this level, we’re winning national titles.”

There’s currently no women’s hockey team at the school. Women’s hockey is flourishing, of course, including the addition of Vancouver to the PWHL this coming season.
