BETHLEHEM, N.H. —
The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services has identified five people who got sick with Giardia. Of the five individuals, four reported drinking water from the same natural spring in Bethlehem in August.
The spring located by Old Franconia Road was closed by the property owner so the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services can test water samples. DHHS is awaiting more information from the fifth individual, who reported drinking from a natural spring but did not specify which one.
Giardia is a parasitic infection located in the small intestine. Though anyone can get sick from Giardia, the DHHS reported that children and people with weakened immune systems are at increased risk, with some people developing prolonged symptoms that last weeks or l
