PEQUOT LAKES — “Annie” will be staged at 7 p.m. Sept. 18, 20, 25 and 27, and 2 p.m. Sept. 21 and 28, in the Pequot Lakes High School auditorium.
A cast of several dozen actors ages 4 to 80 will perform the Greater Lakes Area Performing Arts family musical.
Themes are resilience, hope, the definition of family and the stark contrasts between poverty and wealth during the Depression.
It is based on the comic strip Little Orphan Annie, published during the presidencies of Herbert Hoover, Franklin Roosevelt and beyond.
Featured characters are the optimistic orphan Annie, the wealthy and kind-hearted Oliver Warbucks, his gentle secretary Grace Farrell, the cruel orphanage matron Miss Hannigan, and her sleazy brother Rooster Hannigan with his girlfriend Lily St. Regis.
“Annie” tells the st
